Letting your heart love again…

I did not think I could handle having another cat after I lost Butch. I adopted Butch and his sister Julia as two month old kittens from a rescuer, and Butch was the most loving, affectionate cat I had owned. Eight years ago at age 20, my beloved Butch developed renal disease. My father and I gave him sub Q fluids twice a day for six months, desperately trying to extend his time with us. Losing him was so painful I didn’t think I could deal with having a cat again.

Years passed and I missed the companionship and intimacy of having cats, but still feared the pain of loss. My boyfriend would periodically try to convince me it was time. I resisted. He sent me a picture of a cat available for adoption, and suddenly, I wanted a cat.
That cat got adopted, but I was lucky enough to connect with a rescuer who had Otis.

I saw his picture, I had never had a ginger cat, and fell in love. That was three years ago February. I love Otis more than I can put into words.

I encourage anyone in a similar situation to adopt. There is more roomin your heart than you know. There are
no replacements for beloved lost pets. There is room for more love. I am a better person for the animals that I was privileged to have in my life.

Lisa welcome on a blog! Thank you for opening your heart to us as well 🙂 and sharing this touching story. Many of us would agree with you, we don’t forget our OTRB pets, but we have still plenty of space in our hearts to adopt and love new ones…

Lisa,
What a beautiful story, and it is so true, there’s more room in your heart than you know. Thank God for all the animals we’ve had over the years that have touched our lives, and the ones that touch our lives today!

Very touching Lisa! You were not alone when it comes to having another pet after your other beloved has crossed the rainbow bridge.
It takes alot of courage to do what you did…to love again!
Ottis you are a beautiful kitty and so glad you gave your mum hope and love again. Bless you both!

Beautiful and touching story Lisa. Thank you for sharing. I agree it is difficult to love another pet after you lose one. There are so many animals out there so deserving to be loved and to have good homes. I’m so happy that you can give Otis the home and love that he so deserves.

This next week will be a year since I lost my baby girl Munchkin to cancer. I still miss her so much. She was one of seven beautiful cats that I adopted 17 years ago. Mommy and six babies. Munchkin was the only girl. She was smart, cute and stole my heart. I still have her brother Mouser, who I love very much but there was something about her that was very special. I volunteer for a shelter but I don’t know if I ever could go through the pain again.

Dear Rita,
Reading your comment made my tears dropping down on keyboard. Your love and bond with your baby Munchkin are very close to my heart. I have indescribable bond with Coco-Mau Aqua. I know one day you and Munchkin will be reunited and she is the one watching you till you do.
